The Voice on the Phone

Her hands trembled… but she pressed call.

The phone started ringing…

And suddenly—

A phone rang… inside the house.

Not outside.
Not in the street.

Inside.

Emma slowly walked toward the sound…
step by step…
until she reached the basement door.

They never used the basement.

It was always locked.

But tonight… it was slightly open.

The ringing grew louder.

Emma pushed the door.

The light flickered.

And there… sitting on a chair in the dark…

Was a woman.

Holding a phone.

Smiling.

The woman looked exactly like… Emma.

Same face.
Same eyes.
Same voice.

The “other Emma” whispered:

“You weren’t supposed to find me.”

Behind her… on the wall… dozens of photos.

All of them… of Emma.

Different days. Different clothes. Different moments.

And in every single photo…
Daniel was standing next to her.

Smiling.

Emma dropped the phone.

Her mind couldn’t understand.

Was she the real one?

Or just… the replacement?

Upstairs, Daniel’s voice echoed:

“Emma…? Who are you talking to?”

But this time…

Two voices answered.
